About Amanda:
Amanda Gorman is a poet, but not just any poet. Listening to her cadence, her voice, its like a summer time hymn, a song, it’s mesmerizing. You would actually never know that she had a speech impediment growing up. In 2015 when she was only 17, before all of the accolades, she self published a poetry book called “The One for Whom Food Is Not Enough” which was her first collection of poems. In 2016, one year later, she founded One Pen One Page, a collective of global programs and initiatives supporting the idea that a kid, a pen, and a page can change the world, just as she had started to do so herself. Following that, in 2017, she became the first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate of the US, making history for artists, poets, people of color and women. Her work focuses on social issues like oppression, feminism and addresses marginalization, climate change and Black identity.
Regardless of what political party you are in, her words speak for everyone, her words speak on hope. Amanda has so much to say and it’s all so eloquently said, and I hope so beautifully and tenderly listened to.
Amanda Gorman plans to run for presidency in 2036.
